A more upbeat Górecki piece - Concerto for Harpsichord and Strings, Op. 40.
I love the wild red hair of harpsichordist Elżbieta Chojnacka. I think it really adds to the savage character of her performance of the music. I also love the brief shot of the audience at the end. There’s a younger Polish guy with a big smile in the audience (my Polish conterpart, I imagine) who’s obviously thinking, “That was fucking awesome.” He’s flanked by several old Polish ladies, whose faces all say, “I don’t likkit.”** It’s Polish ladies like this that explain why people still give Schubert recitals like the one I had to review this week.
**Sometimes a catchphrase: this is my impersonation of Kathy Griffin impersonating Anna Nicole Smith which I have then used to (poorly) personify old Polish ladies in a humorous (to me) manner. See link starting around 9’30”.
