Vaguely-related Rambling #1: A few years ago, I had a high school-aged composition student who remarked in a bored and knowing manner that she had played all of Scarlatti’s sonatas. “Really,” I thought, “all 555?” But I was too nice to say anything. I figured at some point in college some embittered professor would correct her.

“Harpsichordist Elaine plays Sonata in D minor, K. 517 by Domenico Scarlatti on her 2-manual harpsichord.”
