Cats and Theremins, A Survey
A lot of people, 5.2 million, actually, have seen this Japanese kitty’s exploration of a theremin in the last few weeks:
However, this isn’t the only feline sat in front of a theremin by their owner. This cat plays the same model of mini theremin, however, this owner had the foresight to set the octave to a near-deafening altissimo register. Yays.
While it at first fancies taking a bath instead of exploring the theremin, this cat seems thoroughly confused why the amp is making that annoying sound. After making the mistake of sitting down next to the instrument, this kitty decides to vacate the floor altogether for the sofa. The author also feels it necessary to include an odd homemade closed-captioning for this video.
The next owner decided to help their kitty, Schrodinger, play their kit theremin by sitting it on top of the device. Schrodinger was having none of this.
This theremin and kitty owner helps attract their cat to their theremin by shamelessly disguising it a cat toy. The cat gets the pink furry thing (mouse substitute?) off of the antenna after bending the antenna down to the floor, causing it to rebound creating a lovely vibrato Clara Rockmore would appreciate. However, kitty looks at the videographer with a look of “WTF is going on?”
Speaking of Clara Rockmore, VjRobotkid had the idea to make a theremin mash-up with kitty number one accompanying Rockmore. It’s not a very successful duet. I felt Rockmore rushed and got ahead of the cat in the part where the cat chews on the antenna.
Finally, the best of the theremin/cat videos out there has to be this one of Alan (the vampire cat), who himself does an impression of a theremin. As the person’s hand gets closer to petting the Alan’s head, the cat makes a long meow that changes tone as the proximity of the hand changes. I can’t help but LOL every time I see this one.
