Instrumental electropop composer and Dj Rana Sobhany created an interesting concept video for her track “Solace” released in late June. The track was composed entirely on the iPad in the span of a week using only two apps: AKAI’s Synthstation and SoundTrend’s Looptastic. The video was shot entirely on an iPhone 4- the day iPhone 4 was released. “I waited for 9 hours to get the iPhone 4 and then went right to shooting the video! Grueling!” Sobhany wrote on her tumblog, destroythesilence. The iPad mask was custom-made as was the camera rig for the iPhone. 

Besides being a shiny technological spectacle of music and video production, “Solace” also appears to offer up some thought-provoking imagery. The video stars Sobhany along with a slew of iPad men which Sobhany can sort through with a swipe of her finger on the iPad screen. Is it an artful commentary on fickle nature of love, an interpretation of the cold, digitized nature of human interaction in contemporary society, or modern take on the story of the search for Mr. Right?
