Different frequencies cause the rice to snap into various geometric snowflake-like patterns, most of which are perfectly symmetrical. The tone is raised in pitch until it is inaudible to human listeners. Be prepared to turn down your volume, the upper frequencies can be quite piercing on computer speakers.
