Michael Collings on Britain’s Got Talent - The Next Susan Boyle?
Nineteen–year–old Michael Collings walks on stage, guitar in hand, in an orange hoodie and grey sweatpants, “sherbert leisurewear” as one judge called it. BGT judge David Hasselhoff – yes, that David Hasselhoff – politely quizzes Michael, who seems unremarkable – until he opens his mouth to sing Tracy Chapman’s “Fast Car.” He’s rewarded with a standing ovation and three ‘yes’ votes from the show judges.
I hope Mr. Collings does have the success of Susan Boyle, minus the exploitation. I would buy his album. Backstage after his initial performance, he also sings a bit of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah”.*
[*Don’t click on the michaelcollings.co.uk link in the Hallelujah video. Some skanky woman from the XFactor has bought this domain and is advertising… an escort service? idk? It’ll be hellish if he has to buy back his own name from this opportunist. Conversely, it’ll be awesome if some big record company comes along and sues it away from her. Take note, I rarely will cheer on big record companies, but in this case I’ll make an exception.]
